Matchbox Superfast No.54 Ford Capri
The Ford Capri Model, substituted the Cadillac Ambulance in the Superfast range. This model was based upon the extremely popular 'personal luxury car', which was launched as Europe's answer to the Ford Mustang.
The Matchbox model proved to be a very popular seller for several years and was a very accurate replica of the full size car.
The opening bonnet made Ford Capri popular, which when lifted exposed a plated engine.
To start with, Ford Capri was painted in a flourescent orange colour, however alike the Wildcat Dragster model, this was affected by sunlight, the cause why models turn up in various shades of orange or pink.
To indicate that the model was the powerful 1600GT, the bonnet was painted a matt black color.
The interior of the model was white plastic and as with many other models in the range, the base and grille were a bare metal.
The paintwork in 1974 was changed to a metallic magenta, including the previous matt black bonnet. The logic behind this was to perhaps represent the more luxurious Capri GXL.
Ford Capri was finally replaced in 1977 with a Personnel Carrier. However this was not the finish for Ford Capri!
Between 1976 and 1979 a lighter orange Ford Capri appeared in a 'Weekender Set' from the Two Pack Series, where it coupled up with the Boat Trailer and even the Eccles Caravan.
Also in 1974 the rolamatic model Hot Rocker appeared and used many of the parts from Ford Capri.
